Patent & Trademark Attorney John Rizvi

Welcome.  I'm John Rizvi, one of the founding Partners of Gold & Rizvi, P.A.  I'd first like to give you a little background regarding my career in Intellectual Property Law. Before founding Gold & Rizvi with my partner Glenn Gold, I spent several years as a Registered Patent Attorney at the internationally renowned intellectual property law firm of Fish & Neave (now merged with Ropes & Gray) in New York City. That firm has been helping client's for a very long time.  In fact, Fish & Neave has represented some of this nation's most famous inventors such as Thomas Edison, Henry Ford, the Wright Brothers, and Alexander Graham Bell when they desired protection for their ideas. And they're very good at protecting their client's ideas.  In 1992, this firm made history by securing a $972 million dollar judgment against Polaroid for patent infringement. To date, this remains the largest patent infringement judgment in history.

During my time at that firm, I enjoyed a multifaceted litigation and prosecution based practice dedicated to providing clients with effective legal barriers to competition through the application of patent, trademark, and copyright laws.  But most importantly, that is where I learned how to protect my clients.

I'm also an Adjunct Professor at the Nova Southeastern University Shepard Board Law Center where I teach courses in intellectual property law.

And I'm the author and narrator of “Patent Protection: A Practical Guide for Inventors”, part of an educational audio series that details the intricacies of the U.S. patenting process.  I've written a number of articles on intellectual property issues and I regularly speak to authors, inventors, and business groups in Florida and across the U.S. on issues that impact our patent and trademark laws.

I'm a member of the Licensing Executives Society, the American Intellectual Property Law Association and the New York Intellectual Property Law Association.

In more recent years, I was selected as a "2004 Best of the Bar" finalist by the South Florida Business Journal.  The prior year, I was selected as a "2003 Best of the Bar" finalist and was one of only two attorneys recognized for expertise in the area of patent law.

I am AV Rated by the Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory, which is the highest rating possible.  My sole focus is the preparation and prosecution of U.S. and international patent and trademark applications, patent and trademark validity and infringement opinions, licensing, transactional support, and all other aspects of intellectual property litigation.

As far as my education, I received my Juris Doctorate (J.D.), from the University of Miami School of Law, and a Bachelor of Science degree, in Civil Engineering, from the Florida Institute of Technology.

During law school, I worked as a Registered Patent Agent at the Miami office of Malloy & Malloy, P.A., an intellectual property law firm that's headquartered in Florida.  As an engineering student, I was president of Chi Epsilon, which is a Civil Engineering Honor Society, and was an active member of Tau Beta Pi, the national engineering honor society.

I am licensed to practice in both Florida and New York and am admitted to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office in Washington, D.C.  Additionally, I am admitted to practice before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, the Florida Supreme Court, U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida and the U.S. District Courts for the Eastern and Southern Districts of New York.

And I too help manage our associates as we grow this practice and move into other cities and states across the U.S.
